Lifting to 35 tonnes

One of Scotland’s leading transport solutions specialists, Yuill & Dodds, specified a Stertil Koni Skylift to support upgraded vehicle washing facilities at its site in Hamilton.

Established in 1953, Yuill & Dodds operates a mixed fleet of over 100 vehicles, ranging from long distance articulated units to rugged off road 8-wheel vehicles, covering the whole of the UK. The company is an affiliated member of both the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and Fleet Transport Association (FTA). Yuill & Dodds also operates as a Licensed Waste Carrier with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and has further diversified into a more specialised market by operating double drive tractor units with walking floor trailers and ejector trailers ensuring that vehicles can unload in all conditions and on landfill sites.

The Stertil Koni Skylift 350 provides a safe lifting capacity of 35 tonnes and is the ultimate heavy-duty lift in terms of efficiency, versatility and safety. Installed within Yuill & Dodds’ outdoor wash bay, the Skylift ensures unobstructed access to the underside of vehicles during regular vehicle body and chassis cleaning operations. For this application, the Skylift is constructed from galvanised steel for maximum strength plus resistance to water and degreasing solutions. Importantly, the Skylift incorporates an electronically controlled hydraulic system which uses inclinometers to monitor vehicle weight displacement and provide smooth synchronisation between its four lifting points.

Featuring a 14.5 metre platform to accommodate extra long vehicles and trailers, the Skylift 350 at Yuill & Dodds was easily installed and its narrow width ensures maximum utilisation of available space. Also, in common with all Stertil Koni products, safety is paramount. The Skylift has an independent mechanical locking system that is always active, from when the lift is at its lowest level to when it reaches maximum height.

Yuill & Dodds managing director, Brian Yuill is very pleased with the performance of the Sklift 350 within the company’s upgraded wash bay. He says, “Our vehicles operate in some of the most demanding environments including construction and landfill sites. They need to be tough enough to take whatever the job throws at them. And the same is true of the Skylift – rugged and reliable.”
