Stainless steel spiral

Posted on Friday 1 January 2010

When Lantmannen Unibake needed to replace an existing stainless steel spiral, working in conjunction with LAC Conveyor Systems and belt supplier Intralox a new design, unique to the UK was developed that “lifted” the conveyor off the floor, creating storage space underneath the conveyor.

By using Intralox’s Intermediate Drive (i-Drive) system the number of transfers were reduced by three. The overall length of the conveyor was increased to 575m of belt length run over seventeen tiers, still ensuring the required 35 minutes ambient air cooling time for products as the speed of the conveyor could be increased, resulting in a 30% increase in throughput.

The system is supported on stainless steel columns which free up the floor space underneath the conveyor. Within the centre of the conveyor two floors were created allowing operatives and maintenance staff easy access to the system.
