Tape solutions for secure packaging

To avoid unnecessary delays and complaints, warehouses and despatch centres across the UK are looking much more closely at the most efficient ways to ensure parcels reach their final destination intact.

Tesa manufactures a range of packaging tapes that ensure this, irrespective of their weight, mode of transport used or distance travelled.

tesa has addressed the factors affecting the correct choice of carton sealing tape by identifying elements such as the type of cardboard packaging selected, the application process required, transport and storage processes, to offer a range of paper backing, PVC backing, PP backing (silent unwinding and easy unwinding) tapes that offer high initial tack, high tear resistance, easily printable and cater for parcel weights from low (max 15kg), medium (max 30kg) to high (over 30kg).

Products include tesa 4122, which is suited to heavy cartons or boxes.

Adding another dimension to the range, products such as tesa 4313, with a natural, sustainable paper backing, offer secure sealing for products requiring short term resistance and the PP backed tesa 4089 provides a packaging solution for lightweight to medium-weight parcels.

"There's a lot of choice and a wide range of sealing tapes that can be used to secure the various sizes and types of packaging materials, but one thing is certain, the need to consider a range of factors including lining paper, flap type (fluting) and pressure and contents/weight as all these will influence the type of tape/adhesive," said Jeremy Smith, Marketing Manager, tesa UK.

"It may be tempting to select a cheaper product, but more often than not, the amount of material waste incurred in trying to create a secure seal using an inferior product leads to both a false economy and an expensive outcome."

"The global parcel deliveries industry is experiencing rapid change as a result of technological and process innovation, and the boom in online retailing," concluded Jeremy Smith.

"This has driven fast growth in parcel volumes and also spurred innovation, with consumers and businesses alike demanding more convenient, easy and secure methods of sending, receiving and returning their parcels. Having a constant focus on innovation in packaging tape technologies will be key to meeting the demand, and it's a challenge that tesa is ready to meet."
