Twinplast receives surge of demand for reusable and closed-loop packaging
Twinplast, a leading manufacturer of bespoke corrugated polypropylene products, is experiencing a surge of demand from companies seeking reusable and closed-loop packaging to comply with new EU regulations.

THE PACKAGING and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) – the EU’s new framework for packaging – arrived in February, commencing an 18-month transition period before most of its provisions come into effect. Thousands of businesses in the UK are adjusting to the requirements and many have approached Twinplast to develop packaging solutions to comply with new rules on recyclability, minimum recycled content, and mandatory recycling and reuse quotas.
Toby Garrett, managing director at Twinplast, said: “The PPWR’s main objective is to make all packaging recyclable by 2030 through an effective circular economy. A key part of that model is a closed-loop system in which packaging materials are collected after use, processed, and returned to the supply chain to create new packaging products or other items. Twinplast are able to facilitate that with our own in-house waste-processing facilities which make full use of corrugated polypropylene’s 100% recyclability, converting end-of-use packaging into new raw material which is fed back into production to ensure that no plastic becomes waste. Clients are increasingly using our specialist waste processing as it provides much more reliable control over recycled content compared to third-party recycling channels.”
Tim Steer, commercial director at Twinplast, said: “Much of the focus of the impact of the PPWR has been through the lens of packaging used for consumer goods and point-of-sale, but there are also wider implications for the packaging supply chain, including far-reaching re-use targets for different types of packaging which will affect many UK businesses. Economic operators with have legal responsibilities relating to the use of transport packaging or sales packaging for transport including pallets and pallet dividers, foldable plastic boxes, plastic crates, pails and trays which must be at least 40% reusable packaging within a system for re-use by January 1, 2030. Many are turning to corrugated polypropylene due to its inherent durability and moisture resistance which makes it ideal for repeated reuse, at least 40 times more than cardboard equivalents.”
With in-house design and custom manufacturing facilities, Twinplast offers the widest range of corrugated polypropylene products in the market, from packaging and storage to display and countless other bespoke solutions. The company supplies major UK businesses and organisations across a wide range of sectors including FMCG, retail, horticultural, construction, industrial, healthcare, packaging, logistics and pharmaceutical.
