Weston revamps ACKBelt
WHEN THE first Covid-19 lockdown started in March 2020, UK-based Weston Handling lost its Ukrainian supplier of moulded components for its ACKBelt Anti-Crush Kick-Belt.
The ACKBelt was developed to overcome the limitations of existing anti-crush protection on powered pedestrian trucks, virtually all of which are fitted with a small 7-10 cm square anti-crush button on the tiller arm.
Owner Stephen Weston has re-developed the product using electro-conductive textiles.
The result is the patent applied for ACKBelt-2021, which is said to offer improved strength, compressibility, cushioning and ease of fitting.
While trialling an ACKBelt-2021 on stacker trucks at a major car manufacturer, Weston noted that flexible safety barriers segregating factory traffic from pedestrians often had scuff and impact marks on them, and could also be used to alert to crashes, by fitting custom End Caps from the same material used by the ACKBelt-2021.
