Windsor sponsors Safetember

Windsor Materials Handling is inspiring a transformation in forklift safety across the industry with the sponsorship of Safetember under the theme of ‘Complacency Kills’.

Safetember is the annual month-long fork lift truck safety campaign organised by the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA). As the sponsor, Windsor will highlight the need for lasting change in the industry throughout the entire month of September 2018.

With a mixture of originality, entrepreneurial spirit and determination, Windsor has developed into one of the largest and most innovative independent suppliers of forklift and materials handling equipment in the UK. With the opening of its dual accredited MHE training centre in Immingham last year, use of operator safety systems and championing of safety initiatives, Windsor is taking great strides towards reducing forklift accidents in the UK. Windsor has also adopted the FLTA’s own new audit standards for maintaining exceptional standards of its own.

Windsor managing director, Stephen Burton, says: “According to the FLTA, there are around 1300 forklift accidents every year, which amounts to five per workday on average in the UK. All of these accidents are avoidable, and we believe a lasting change in workplace attitudes and culture is necessary from everyone who works on a fork lift site in order to change this.”

Stephen believes it’s not only the responsibility of forklift operators to stay safe, but management too. “Managers have a duty to enforce procedures that can potentially save lives,” he says. “If every forklift accident is reported to management, no matter how small, steps can then be taken to ensure the safety of operators and pedestrians in the future.”

As one of the leading independent materials handling suppliers in the UK, Windsor Materials Handling was founded on service in 1977. Since then, the Windsor name has been synonymous with materials handling and access systems, providing a first-class range of forklift truck and access platform hire, sales, maintenance services and MHE training.
