Promat to highlight the need to protect warehouses against fire risks

BRINGING THE company’s knowledge of passive fire protection to the event for the first time, Promat commercial director Joshua Slack will focus on the importance of built-in fire protection in warehouses to ensure the building, occupants, stock and, ultimately, the supply chain are protected against the risk of fire.

He will discuss how this fits in with the drive towards net zero, and whether there needs to be a compromise over fire safety in order to achieve high levels of environmental performance for the building, or if it is possible to achieve both. 

Joshua said: “Effective fire protection should be built into the structure of a warehouse to protect the people within it, the contents of the building, and the structure itself.  

“Passive fire protection solutions allow fires to be contained, provide time to escape – and give firefighters time to tackle a fire to prevent it spreading and to protect the integrity of the building.  

“For warehouses, in particular, having a demonstrated level of fire protection is essential to both protecting the stock being stored there but also in terms of ensuring the continuity of the supply chain and protecting against the expense and potential implications of a business disruption. 

“There has been an increased focus on the need for effective fire safety across all industries, especially with the introduction of the Building Safety Act and this event is a good forum to highlight the need for best practice to ensure adequate fire protection is in place for warehouses – but also look at how this fits into a wider ESG strategy.”

The Tomorrow’s Warehouse Event will be held in Coventry at the CBS Arena on 20th June. Promat will address fire protection during the ‘Warehouse Property’ panel discussion, taking place from 3:15pm.
