Doors that deliver

02 December 2019

Hart Door Systems has won a wide range of contracts showing that its doors suit a broad range of end customers.

Hart Door Systems recently received an order for a further five of its Speedor Storms which followed an earlier installation of one Speedor Storm. This was in addition to pedestrian doors, Speedor Minis, one insulated roller shutter and one electrically operated roller shutter.

A Hart spokesman said: “This sample demonstrates the breadth of door types we can supply. Hart continues to supply its customer base with doors that deliver, sometimes in very testing environments.”

Hart Door Systems is a leading designer and manufacturer of both commercial doors and industrial doors. It is now 35 years since Hart produced its first high-speed door under the internationally recognised Speedor brand which is now in operation across the major industrial continents.

From its own office and manufacturing facility in Newcastle upon Tyne, Hart designs and manufactures industrial doors for many countries and across a very wide range of sectors, often requiring bespoke solutions. This is a customer-friendly and highly innovative company.

The Speedor range of high speed doors is known for its energy saving properties, ability to lower carbon footprint and maintaining temperatures inside buildings as well as securing areas.

60-minute fire resistance

Hart designed and manufactured a unique door for a new production facility. The doors needed to give 60-minute fire resistance and be capable of completing up to 400,000 open/close cycles a year.

Further, the doors needed to meet strict air leakage criteria and be able to withstand sudden air-pressure increases. The doors also had to interface with third-party equipment such as conveyor belt controls and fire alarms. Each required an LCD display control panel that provided a quick and easy diagnosis of what each door was doing at any point in time.

Eight years have passed since the doors were installed and commissioned and the doors remain a critical part of the success of the plant and have proved exceptional reliability.

High-speed roller shutters

Another and more recent contract was to supply and install five high-speed Speedors, six high-speed roller shutters and a specialist fire shutter at the state-of-the-art UK plant of a global specialist company focusing on the processing and transport of agricultural and basic commodities, raw materials and oleochemical products.

The order underlines Hart’s broad range of door products for advanced manufacturing. Speedor is a proven brand operating in a demanding high performance market. Known for their automatic operation, robust design and longevity, many Speedors are now over 25 years old and still remain in constant use.

Security solutions

Hart recently installed more of its steel doors and roller shutters in a number of security contracts across the country for companies within the water infrastructure sector.

The installation started with a 5.980 m x 4.000 m shutter with a further five steel doors and four roller shutters to be installed in the near future.

Hart’s design incorporates a motor drive system with built-in safety features. The drive system has no spring counterbalance and drives the door directly via the tube. Electric operation can be combined with safety devices, traffic lights to provide trouble free safe use. All systems full comply with all current health and safety standards.

Hart’s SR3 Terror Screen solution is also in much demand due to its significant increase in security grade with the commensurate increase in weight and strength. The range of Terror Screen products, manual or automatic, are all to Loss Prevention Standards as approved by the LPC Fire and Security Board and Expert Group G. Over 20 organisations assisted in the preparation of this LPS1175 standard.

ATEX compliance

Hart is had major overseas contracts in recent years from the Falklands to Vladivostok to Africa and the Middle East.

Work has been completed on Hart’s first order from Oman for four highly specialist ‘ATEX’ shutters for compliance with regulations relating to environments with a risk of explosion.

The ATEX doors are designed to eliminate all sources of ignition when in operation, allowing safe use in hazardous environments. These hazards can include dust, waste products such as wood shavings, gas and vapour.”

Hart’s success came from its relationship with G4S - Oman, which is working on a high security government project in Oman.

Hart has a good reputation across the Middle East, with a track record on some large-scale and high profile projects including in the United Arab Emirates where Hart has provided Speedors, fire shutters, insulated shutters and roller shutters to major retailers like IKEA, a Hypermarket, Dubai Airport, and food and beverage manufacturers including Iffco.

Hart has also supplied Speedors and fire shutters to airports in Saudi Arabia, and Baghdad Airport in Iraq. It has also supplied a flour mill in Sudan and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation in Cairo, Egypt.

Energy from Waste

Returning to the UK, Hart is very active in the specialist Energy from Waste sector where contracts could include a wide range of Hart’s products - Speedor high-speed doors and fire and security steel roller shutters for example.

Speedor Storms have now been installed on a number of new build waste transfer sites around the UK and is proving reliable and resistant to the environment. Designed for frequent use in high traffic situations where exceptional wind resistance is required ‘Storms’ are predominately an external door with a unique guide system offering wind resistance up to class 5 as defined by DIN EN 12424, it is designed for intense use on larger openings up to 6m x 8m.
