Amsterdam-based HEMA BV has decided to almost double the performance of its existing distribution centre in Utrecht.

Currently there are about 600 HEMA stores being supplied from the DC in Utrecht. In order to improve service levels together with this expansion, HEMA will prepare the distribution centre for the future with realisation partner, Witron.

Designed and realised by Witron in 2003, the automated Utrecht facility has more than 210,000 tote locations and 26,000 pallet locations and features Witron's Dynamic Picking System (DPS).

The DPS is based on a modular design, allowing it to be extended by 12 ergonomic picking workstations, 16 ergonomic repacking stations, and 7500 tote locations. Additional software optimisations will be made to expand functionalities.
