FTA helps drivers keep moving on winter roads

17 January 2013

The Freight Transport Association is offering advice to drivers to help them cope with freezing conditions.

With the Met Office forecasting extreme winter weather, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is advising anyone who needs to keep their vehicles on the road to make sure they are prepared for freezing conditions.

FTA's own traffic service is providing amber and red alerts for winter weather, and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The FTA website contains advice for both managers and drivers on dealing with poor weather conditions.

Shopfta stocks a wide range of essential winter products to keep drivers safe and vehicles moving, enabling them to get on with the task of delivering essential supplies. Operators can keep on the move with winter items ranging from informative driver cards and posters about driving in severe weather conditions to essential in-cab winter kits containing shovels, torches, high visibility vests, an emergency foil blanket and winter windscreen kit. Shopfta stocks hats, scarves and gloves.

There are Autostocks for trucks, which are ideal for any vehicle stuck in the snow and, unlike snow chains, can even be fitted on a hill after you've got stuck. Rock salt depot kits and supplies of de-icing salt, to keep depots and distribution centres clear of snow, are also available.
