Bridge Publications, a manufacturer and distributor of literature, books, CDs, and DVDs required a new intelligent conveying system to improve performance and throughput to meet order demands, whilst reducing power consumption and increasing the reliability of the whole system. The application demanded advanced control and diagnostic capabilities including order picking, carton carrier sortation and multi-zone zero pressure accumulation logic control.

A conveying system was designed using Interroll products that allowed the entire operation to function with minimal staff and maintain a high throughput.

Interroll's versatile EC100 RollerDrive and HCEC100 DriveControl Card enabled the conveyor system to provide non-contact, zero pressure accumulation (ZPA) logic control. The system precisely activates conveyor zones individually or together, giving it the flexibility to handle varying throughput rates, unit sizes and traffic patterns.

Interroll's ZPA plug-and-play configuration also eased the installation and operation at Bridge Publications, while drastically reducing energy consumption and noise, as specific conveyor zones operate through the use of photo-eyes only when required. In addition, the ZPA feature reduces the wear and tear of the conveyor system's components, increasing its operational life.

The 24 V DC EC100 RollerDrives offer a complete safe solution to support the design of cost effective, custom built, versatile conveyor and assembly lines. What is more, the drive solution uses up to 30% less energy and recycles brake energy. Thanks to its simple control technology with perfectly coordinated functions, the space-saving EC310 drive solution significantly simplifies zero line pressure accumulation conveyor technology compared with conventional systems and can be integrated seamlessly and compactly into any new or existing logistics systems.

The customer reported that the benefits from the new system provided for drastic labor savings, significant order picking accuracy, increased throughput and energyefficiency, while reducing noise and costs.
