Mitsubishi Electric takes on longer semi-trailers

This follows the introduction of a diesel/electric hybrid to the 20-strong dedicated vehicle fleet last year.

The two 15.65 metre trailers are part of the DfT’s trial. As well as reducing road miles due to the additional four pallet capacity, the new trailers are supporting efficiency improvements elsewhere in the network, by allowing Norbert Dentressangle to increase the utilisation of its outbases that support the Milton Keynes-based operation.

Norbert Dentressangle’s regional general manager, Robin Smith said: "As part of our shared commitment with Mitsubishi Electric to continually optimise efficiency and reduce environmental impact, we regularly review the fleet to ensure that we operate the right mix of vehicles in terms of type, size and age. Working together, both we and Mitsubishi Electric are willing to invest and make changes in order to achieve sustainable, long-term cost and environmental savings and continuous improvements.”

Originally appointed by Mitsubishi Electric in 2008, Norbert Dentressangle is responsible for the distribution of products, including a wide range of air conditioning units, Ecodan heating systems, factory automation equipment and spare parts to Mitsubishi Electric’s customers throughout the UK and Ireland. The contract uses a mixed fleet of 20 dedicated vehicles alongside specified subcontractors.  It also manages the delivery of up to 300 parcels each day and provides a range of added-value services, including timed deliveries to meet construction schedules and Hiab and crane lifting solutions, enabling Mitsubishi Electric to fully meet its customers’ requirements.
