Active management system

To ensure the ongoing safety, reliability and productivity of equipment in the loading bay, Transdek UK believes it is imperative that fully trained service technicians with the relevant knowledge and expertise should carry out regular scheduled servicing.

Martin James, service manager at Transdek, says: "In too many cases untrained engineers conduct inspections, which can lead to crucial safety features being unintentionally missed out. This might appear to save time and money, but in the long run it’s likely to cost companies a lot more. In our experience breakdown rates on machines that are not regularly serviced are on average at least 50% higher.”
To alleviate this, Transdek recommends that planned preventative maintenance (PPM) is carried out to deliver continuous productivity in the loading bay and to help prolong equipment lifetime. PPM packages are designed to provide regular servicing by fully trained, skilled service technicians – ensuring that any problems are identified and dealt with before they become a potential hazard. Combining a PPM schedule with the actual hours run by each piece of equipment further improves efficiency.
James explains: "At Transdek we continually review loading bay safety and aim to provide innovative solutions that not only improve safety but also deliver a commercial benefit, which led us to develop our Active Management System (AMS).
"The AMS incorporates an external maintenance management system including remote trouble-shooting and cyclical maintenance to ensure the continuous, safe working order of equipment. An in-house maintenance management program is also available and provides real time information for rapid fault finding and efficient machine operation.”
