Trusting your truck

12 June 2015

The word reliability and materials handling equipment should go hand in hand. Without reliable forklift trucks, operations will stall and sometimes even come to a complete stop.

The word reliability can be difficult to quantify. The amount of downtime probably springs to mind first but there are a lot of elements that can make your truck more reliable.

At Toyota Material Handling UK, the very moment a forklift truck starts its’ life on the production line at one of our production facilities the jigsaw of producing a reliable truck is being pieced together.

To translate what that means for you, here’s a step by step reliability check list as we follow one of our trucks from production to your operation.

Production
The Toyota Production System (TPS) is influential in all aspects of Toyota Material Handling. It encourages every member of the Toyota family to challenge what they do and look for ways to continually improve by never accepting that any process is 100% perfect. This level of commitment to the production of our forklift trucks means that every stage of the production line produces the most reliable components, the most durable chassis and the most efficient industrial engines. Toyota has spent nearly 60 years refining and developing counterbalance forklifts and will continue to innovate and improve making sure the forklift trucks they produce are providing the highest levels of reliability for our customers.

The truck at work - System of Active Stability (SAS)
You have ordered your truck and it has arrived on your site. You want to see reliability in action. The unique, patented SAS active safety system not only guarantees improved safety for your operators but it also results in improved reliability and greater productivity which helps you to keep your costs low. The system is made up of ten sensors, three actuators and a controller. It constantly monitor the forklift activity and takes corrective action when is senses factors that could lead to truck or load instability. SAS also features a number of functions that help the driver control the goods, reducing damage to the truck and load.

A safe truck gives your operators confidence when they go about their job. It eliminates the risk of the truck tipping over, reduces the likelihood of goods being damaged and gives you the trust in your material handling equipment.
