Jib fitted to JCB to lift conveyor sections

02 December 2016

Conveyor firm Coveya specified a specially-designed lifting jib from Contact Attachments to fit onto its existing JCB 550-80.

Contact Attachments designed and manufactured the jib which had the capabilities of lifting a conveyor of 12 metres in length and 1.8 metres in width, and which weighed just over 3500kg. Integral to the jib’s design was a pair of Quick Hitch Brackets which enabled the team at Coveya to mount the lifting beam directly onto their JCB.

Gareth Tunley, research and design coordinator at Coveya, says: “The build quality of the lifting jib is excellent. I would definitely return for any future equipment we may need.”

Dave Manuel, technical sales director at Contact Attachments adds: “Designed for handling heavy or awkward loads, our range of Telehandler lifting beams can be simply connected to a customer’s machine to convert it into a mobile lifting crane. The fact that our customer’s telehandler didn’t incorporate pallet tines meant that our standard forklift attachments simply wouldn’t fit, and which is why we needed to manufacture a completely bespoke design.

“Unlike attachments for forklifts, those for telehandlers – such as the customer’s JCB 550-80 – require integral brackets to be fitted to enable the attachment itself to be secured onto the machine, and which ultimately ensured the resultant beam would more than meet the lifting capacity required.”
