SEMA unveils line-up for Technical Conference

SEMA, the Storage Equipment Manufacturers’ Association is to hold its first full day technical conference on Tuesday 6th June at the Park Inn, West Bromwich which will be chaired by SEMA president, Jaap Vos.

Eight speakers will cover a raft of technical content relevant to all those working in the safe manufacture, design, supply and installation of storage systems.
Six speakers have been chosen for their significant depth of knowledge, skill and experience sit on SEMA’s Technical Committee. They include Mike Savage who will outline the proposed CE Marking assessment route via the European Assessment Documentation; while Alan Worrell will review the current status, application and proposed modifications of CEN EN15512: Racking Design Code.
Colin Hinton will speak on the exact interpretation of the level of damage determined by the Green Category of SEMA’s Racking Inspection traffic light system.
SEMA’s Technical Committee Chairman, Steve Cowen will discuss the scope of SEMA’s Installation Document.
Nick Betteley will present practical findings on upright bend tests by a manufacturer of racking components; and Alan Schofield will summarise the migration of standards in archive storage in the transition from PD5454 to BS4971 to include modifications and implications.
There will also be a Dos and Don’ts review of SEMA’s market-facing best practice promotional video on Load Notices. In addition, Geoff McBride of Troax will provide insider insights on anti-collapse mesh and ancillary products.
The event will conclude with an open forum where the panel will answer questions from the floor.
SEMA’s technical chairman Steve Cowen says: “A crucial part of SEMA’s 2017 agenda is to lead the storage industry from a position of outstanding technical excellence. This first full day technical event will enable us to share what we know with those who have a duty of care for safe storage.”
