Patient-specific tablet dispenser launches

30 August 2023

KNAPP HAS developed the D³ Daily Dose Dispenser system, which transfers tablets from their original packaging directly into personalised blister cards.

It has gone on stream at the German pharmaceutical service provider, MicuraPharm. Automating the production of pre-filled, patient-specific medication packs provides valuable support for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. With every step of the process automatically checked and documented, the D³ Daily Dose Dispenser is an efficient way of ensuring safe medication management for every patient.

MicuraPharm managing director, Edgar Mähringer-Kunz, says: “The D³ Daily Dose Dispenser handles tablets independently. Each tablet remains in its original packaging until it is dispensed, which the system performs at rapid speed and with the highest degree of safety.”

Once tablets have been picked from their original blister packs into a new one, the blister card is sealed and a card with patient-specific information is attached. Using the D³ Daily Dose Dispenser, MicuraPharm can produce weekly blister cards for up to 5,000 patients per shift with the assistance of only two employees. The automated solution puts an end to labour-intensive deblistering, intermediate storage in containers, the need for visual inspection and manual sealing. Automation also avoids the risks of tablet abrasion and cross-contamination, while ensuring hygienically clean processes according to clean room class ISO 8. Furthermore, comprehensive tracking of lot numbers, expiry dates and charges ensures 100% quality control and traceability for every pill dispensed.
