Norbert Dentressangle has formed a partnership with asset recovery specialist, Bakers Basco in order to extend its reverse logistics and environmental management services.

Norbert Dentressangle is a leader in the provision of reverse logistics solutions to the UK's supermarket retail sector and is responsible for handling returnable packaging, packaging and food waste on behalf of two of the UK's top three supermarket retailers. Employing more than 1,500 people across 20 sites, Norbert Dentressangle washes more than 350 million trays per annum and is responsible for the recycling of over 500,000 tonnes of card and plastic.

In addition, through its partnership with Bakers Basco, Norbert Dentressangle can now offer customers a professional recovery service to help minimise the loss of returnable transit packaging in the supply chain, including plastic trays and buckets, dollies and roll cages.

Richard Cawston, director of Norbert Dentressangle's Consumer Business Unit said: “Replacing returnable transit packaging which has been lost through abuse or theft costs retailers millions of pounds every year, with large numbers of trays and other equipment being misappropriated for unauthorised use. This is especially common in industries such as food service, butchery and poultry, cash and carry and wholesale and is also widespread at markets and car boot sales. “In addition to the financial cost, replacing this equipment also has an impact on the environment.”

Bakers Basco employs a professional national asset recovery team which is dedicated to locating misappropriated equipment and uses negotiation, education, collection and enforcement to recover losses. To date, the division has recovered 2,000,000 units.

Baker's Basco was set up by five of the UK's leading plant bakers in 2006 with the aim of buying, managing and policing the use of a standard basket for the delivery of bread to retailers and wholesalers.
