Combilift debuts several new trucks

05 April 2013

Combilift used IMHX to launch a number of new models, including a pedestrian reach stacker, a sideloader and electric multidirectional models.

IMHX was the location for the launch of the new Combi-WR Walkie pedestrian reach stacker. Incorporating AC technology in its traction, pump and steering motors, this reach stacker has a lift height of 4.2m and a load capacity of 1,450kg. With electronic power steering, pantograph and side shift functions it is said to be the only pedestrian reach stacker which can work in an aisle-width of 2m pallet to pallet.
"Following the success of our Aisle-Master range in the DIY sector and back of store retail operations, this machine answers the need from customers for a cost effective narrow aisle pedestrian machine for low level storage for operation in areas where the general public may be present,” says Combilift MD Martin McVicar.

The multi-position tiller (patent pending) incorporates push button rotation of the rear wheel parallel to the chassis for placing and picking in the aisle. This enables the operator to remain at the side of the truck rather than at the rear, improving forward visibility. The risk of incidents in tight and / or narrow aisles is reduced as the operator is not positioned between the racking and the truck. In order to rotate the rear wheel parallel to the tiller the operator merely needs to push the button again. Safer travelling around corners is also ensured as the Combi-WR reduces speed when cornering.

2-speed operation is controlled by a rabbit/turtle switch, and speeds can also be adjusted or customised to suit the level of the operator’s experience. Dual side by side front wheels allow easier execution of a 90 degree turn with no tyre scrub.

Sideloader release

Combilift’s new 4-wheeled, two directional sideloader, available with 5t and 6t load capacities, was developed for operations that require reliable, robust and fast speeds across extensive sites such as port applications and offers considerable benefits over other machines on the market.

Overheating during prolonged operation is a common problem with many sideloaders but Combilift has counteracted any risk of this by incorporating a single Bosch Rexroth variable piston hydrostatic drive motor coupled with a rugged and proven JCB differential axle as used on the JCB 3CX backhoe model. This enables prolonged long distance travel at high speeds and eliminates any concern of overheating. Very low maintenance wet brakes are fitted as standard on the drive and front steering axles.

As always, driver comfort and safety was a priority in the design stages. The new ergonomic cab features a deep suspension seat with joystick control, and a tilting steering column for easy entry and exit. Pneumatic tyres make for a smooth ride across uneven surfaces such as cobbles, and the fully glazed front panel in the cab considerably enhances visibility for the operator. As the engine is situated in a low level compartment underneath the platform excellent visibility when reversing is also ensured.

Power to the electrics

Combilift’s new C4000E multidirectional model incorporates 2 wheel AC electric drive, a redesigned cab and is packed with features to ensure efficient, smooth and quiet operation.

The patent pending design incorporates full AC electric drive on the front right and rear wheel for increased traction and with one of the drive wheels positioned directly under the platform/ load, very exact directional travel can be achieved with heavy loads. Regenerative

braking increases battery life for longer operations per charge, and LED lights as standard reduce power consumption and maintenance.

Whereas conventional electric forklifts tend to be suited to indoor work only, Combilift’s E range offers the versatility of indoor and outdoor operation. With solid rubber tyres on the two front wheels and a rear rubber super elastic tyre, the C4000E is equally at home in the warehouse as well as on challenging surfaces in and around the yard.

The new cabin design adds 220mm to the width, to accommodate pieces of equipment in daily use such as bar code scanners and computer terminals. This extra room together with the deep suspension seat assures drivers of a comfortable ride and they will also appreciate the multifunction display on the dashboard with wheel position indicator. The larger glazed cab offers increased visibility which in turn enhances health and safety procedures. The reduced cab height has benefits for both the driver and operational functionality: lower access makes for easier cab entry and exit and the reduced overall height allows travel under lower doorways.
