Airport makes use of temporary warehouse
12 July 2017
Dusseldorf Intl. Airport is using a Herchenbach temporary warehouse to help sort baggage.

Herchenbach says its 93-year experience comes into play with demanding projects such as this.
Dusseldorf Intl. Airport is one of the three major German gateways besides Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC). Extensive renovation work at the airport created a requirement for an interim baggage sorting hall – on the tarmac of airfield C directly in front and full view of the passenger terminal, and to be installed during active flight operations. A connection tunnel with a conveyor system also had to be put in place to link our building to the actual passenger terminal building.
Key challenges and requirements for the project were:
• Highly restricted site access.
• Limited transport, set-down and storage facilities on-site.
• Extensive and rigorous safety requirements.
• Intensive health & safety monitoring during all stages of the install.
• Increased fire protection requirements for the building.
• Static and constructional measures which accommodated additional wind loads caused by the exhaust jet of the passing aircraft.
• Insulated construction including heating, various air ducts, smoke extraction system, emergency exits, lighting etc.
With comprehensive planning and project management, Herchenback installed the multi-aisle 2200 sq m temporary building with an eave height of 6.4m in less than four weeks.
