According to Greenbank, its
compactors, installed at Furniture
Village outlets, have proved so
effective that the retailer is
considering using the machines to
deal with all its
waste and
recycling.
Furniture Village works closely with a number of charities to reuse and recycle wherever possible, but a proportion of its waste currently still needs to be disposed of into landfill. Group warehousing manager Andy Long says this is where the Greenbank machines are hugely beneficial.
"Unwanted furniture is difficult to dispose of and we are one of a few retailers to offer this service. The new compactors have a wider opening, allowing whole pieces of furniture such as three-piece suites and double beds to be easily put into them. This has led to savings as well as a reduction in Furniture Village's carbon footprint."
